LEARN THE INS AND OUTS OF A NEWS BROADCAST!

Presented by the Nicholson School of Communication (NSC)

Radio/Television and Advertising/Public Relations students will offer an interactive experience including:

• A Guided tour of the NSC broadcast facilities
• The taping of a sports broadcast and weather report
• How commercials are developed and inserted into air time
• How public relations and advertising play into the featured news stories
• A Display and discussion of recent projects by NSC graduate students

LEARN HOW FORENSIC SCIENTISTS HELP FIGHT CRIME!

Presented by the National Center of Forensic Science (NCFS) and Department of Chemistry

Displays and demonstrations will include:

• An Ion Mobility Spectrometer (IMS): The IMS is a field instrument for forensics, commonly used by the TSA at airports to detect drugs and explosives.
• The Drug Cabinet: A display used by crime investigators to identify the different types of drugs and paraphernalia
• Practical fingerprint lifting: Students from the Forensic Science Association will process prints in an Iodine Chamber after guests mark a piece of plastic material similar to a drinking bottle.

LEARN HOW FORENSIC ANTHROPOLGISTS STUDY BONES!

Presented by the Department of Anthropology

Forensic Anthropology graduate students will engage guests in a hands-on forensic anthropology lab! Participants will be introduced to:

• Common human and non-human bone examples
• Sex determination methods of the skeleton
• Aging methods of the skeleton
• Methods of identifying common examples of trauma to the skeleton
• Techniques for differentiating bone pathologies
